what is the ‘eye of God’ on teh first image?
St.Mary’s Church.
The present tower of St.Mary’s in Pendle dates back to the time of the witches. The present bell was bought in 1830, the clock was installed in 1946. On its front is a unique piece of mason work know as “Eye of God” which was placed in the church to ward of evil spirits and witches.
